The Auditor General’s report on this registry called it a Billion Dollar boondoogle – more wasted tax payers hard earned money. Berber / Amazigh names like “Kahina,” “Juba,” “Massinissa,” “Sifaw,” etc. are considered by the Moroccan administration as “non authentic Moroccan names” !!!!!! and in violation of Regulation No 160 of the Ministry of Interior dated 24 / 06 / 2005. Parents refusing to abide by this Regulation No 160/2005 can not register their babies at the official registry or any government agencies to get a certificate of birth. Berber / Amazigh people are the native inhabitants indigenous people of Morocco and North Africa. However, Moroccan Berber children are left out with no names, identity and legal existence until their parents accept to name them eg “Mohamed” or “Ibrahim.” One desperate father decided to resist this situation and to stand up for his rights.
